Just finished reading Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's "Hotel Transylvania". What an excellent book! Pleased Now I have to get the rest of the story... I"m truly surprised with myself that I haven't "discovered" this book (and author) earlier because it's been our for ages: released in 1978 - less than 2 years after Anne Rice's "Interview with the Vampire"!

I think Kain has seen it Smile

Yeah, I'm pretty lucky to live in a big city where movie theaters and clubs are pretty much around every corner... That's the advantage Smile (I won't list the disadvantages, because that's nervewracking!)

The really strange thing about "Star Trek" and a huge uproar (!) in PL is that there are ONLY 39 copies of the film played in this country (so far at least) and ONLY in Multikino (and MK's subsidaries) cinemaplexes. And Multikino is the 2nd largest cinema chain in PL - the biggest one being CinemaCity with nearly 10 times as many theaters as Mulitkino (almost in every town with population over 50 000!). Needless to say, people outside the major cities are furious Angry
I'm sure there must have been a battle about money between the distributor (UIP) and CinemaCity Corporation, but I think UIP made a big mistake not giving the deal to CinemaCity as well and they will 'loose' a heckload of money, which they could get had they included CinemaCity in the distribution.

So... Last Friday I went to see "Star Trek", and... IT'S BRILLIANT!!! Big Grin Big Grin It's very well done, super effects and the script is actally 'intelligent' and witty - even out right funny!! Entertainment par exellance Happy
It was my first time in the newest Multikino in Warsaw and let me tell you - this was in the biggest cinema room I've ever seen in my life: 1300 seats! The room was 2/3 full and I haven't noticed anybody leaving during the movie! Moreover, people were clapping in appreciation at the end - which doesn't happen very often. A week ago I went to see "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" (premiere) and it was good too, but didn't get applause like "Star Trek".

Ok, we all know that I am a freaking sci-fi/fantasy freak and I don't even try to hide it!
Haven't seen the "Watchmen" yet, but it's on my 'to do' list this weekend as I just found out they still play int in a few cinemas in Wa-w.
AND... my most anticipated movies of the year are coming to theaters:
30 April - "X-Men Origins: Wolverine"
and *fanfares please*...
8 May - "Star Trek"!!!
I like the X-Men series a lot, but I must admit I absolutely adore Star Trek (the TV series and all the movies!) - so I''m dying to see it the day it comes out! Smile Judging by the previews and the after-premiere reviews, it's going to be great!
The thing is that the Star Treks are not as well known in Poland as Star Wars, so the marketing of the film is not as good as it should be, but still.... There are Star Trek fans in this country and there already is a huge debate online about the superiority of ST over SW and vice versa. Happy and all the ST fans are ready do go to the cinemas even today!
I like Star Wars a lot, but I think I'm more of a Star Trek fan... plus I was 'on board' of the USS Enterprise in LV and that was one of the coolest things ever!

I saw "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" last weekend.
Excellent and beautiful!
Although I would not recommend it for guys (and girls) looking for pure entertainment - it is very emotional. YOu won't find any superb special effects here, no 'violance', chases, sexy babes, etc. but you will find people dealing with their personal emotions, experiences and caring for other people. Some critics say that there was not enough spark between Benjamin and Daisy. I don't think having more sparks between the two main characters was the main point of the movie. I think the point was how he was feeling/thinking about her in his mind and how she reacted to that. Sort of a 'rational love' if something like that exists...
The movie is long and some scens could be cut shorter, but overall it's well worth watching.

Another movie I saw (on DVD this time) was "Babylon A.D." with Vin Diesel. Darn confusing ending and script so-so, but the film is brilliantly done!! Here you will find a galore of special effects and CGIs -a real treat for all of us scifi/fantasy freaks Pleased
Watching it with the Home Theater System on is highly recommended! Happy

i gotta say, really?
I really really hated this record! and urgh that cover of alice cooper's poison made me go deaf just to block it out! hahaha
liked her in nightwish but i htink we can tell she wasnt the writer huh?

I got this CD just a few weeks ago and I have to disagree with you Smile
I quite enjoy it. Obviously it's not the same as Nightwish, but...
a) I love her voice
b) I think what she tried to attempt here (successfully) is to record something in what I call "The Dark Cabaret" style... Meaning songs that could very easily be performed as musical theater pieces (with the dark, gothic 'overtones'). I can picture each of the songs on 'My Winter Storm" being performed in the theater... And I like that Smile
Obviously she is very familiar with both the music stage (Nightwish) and theater stage (as an opera singer). So I think she knew quite well what she was doing with this album.
But yes, if someone associate her singing only with Nightwish (true, she's best know for that around the world) - could be disappointed with the solo album. But if you realize that she's also a well known classical/opera singer (done numerous guest appearances on classical artists' CDs as well) and has "the weakness" for all things goth... - then you will see that "My Winter Storm" is a good piece of work.
Of course it all depends on your oerall musical taste and - true - I might be a little biased here because I'm the theater person and I often like 'odd things' Happy

And he's in the upcoming "StarTrek", which I'm dying to see!![quote/]

Who was in LOR? Eomer? [quote/]

Yeah, he was Eomer on LOTR Smile

[quote]I saw "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" last Friday. Unfortunately it wasn't really outstanding... although I liked it better than "Twilight". Again, it was quite shallow (scriptwise) and Sonja's outfit definately did not fit into the Romanian Middle Ages where the story takes place, but it did have some powerfull scenes (e.g. the execution scene) and the ever-present dark, gothic atmosphere was quite appealing to my 'taste for Darkness'... [quote/]

I think I'll miss Kate Beckingsale! Anyway I should give it a try!! [quote/]

Yes, Kate Beckingsale could add something to this movie, but than again - it takes place "before her time"... Over all it wasn't a total waste of money, I guess I just expected too much... Smile
